September Favourites

September has been a great month – I’ve done loads, my blog has come on in leaps and bounds, and (for the most part) the weather has been great! I love the cool but sunny days, and the way the leaves are changing into amazing colours. I’m starting to get ready to go back to uni, but I’m not quite there yet! Here’s what I’ve been loving this month:

So pretty much all of the makeup is stuff that I’ve bought this month – both of the products I bought in my Boots Mini-Haul have made it onto this list. The L’Oreal True Match Foundation is probably one of my favourite makeup products at the moment – I’m so glad that I went with this one! The colour is perfect, and the formula is exactly what I wanted; it’s lightweight and easy to blend – I will definitely be wearing this throughout autumn! The Collection Speedy Highlighter is brilliant – so creamy and lovely; the shimmer is great, and it lasts all day! Other than that the only standout product I’ve used this month is Benefit’s POREfessional Primer (£24.50). It may seem pricey, but it lasts forever – you only need to use a small pea-sized amount each time. I love it as it helps to smooth out my skin, and provides a base for foundation and powder to stick to.

I mentioned this in my Skincare Routine post earlier this month, but I’ve really been loving Soap & Glory’s No Clogs Allowed weekly face-mask. My skin feels amazing – clean, soft and ready for anything – after I’ve used it, and I can’t wait until Monday evenings when I use it!

I don’t often wear perfume, but this month I started using my Marc Jacobs Dot (£49.50) again – I go through periods of using it, then forgetting about it, but I really love the fragrance, it’s exactly what I love (I’m not a huge fan of floral scents, but I still like it to be light). I will definitely be trying to remember to wear this more often in the future!

This month’s top album has been Drones by Muse – although it’s not their best album, it’s still amazing! I love Psycho and Mercy, and it is my dream to see them live! My song of the month has been Shut Up and Dance by Walk The Moon – it’s a bit different to what I normally listen to, but I think it’s a great song that always makes me smile and sing along!

I don’t often wear skirts, but I found this one in my wardrobe when looking for something to wear for my sister’s birthday. It’s from New Look, and I think I bought it last year. I really like it, and I think I might start wearing more skirts during this first term back at uni!

I’ve finally started to get into the whole Game of Thrones thing – I’ve known about it for a long time, but I never had the time to read the books. Having just read the first one, I’m so excited to read the rest. It’s exactly the kind of book I love – fantasy with lots of violence and mystery!

I’ve also been watching Game of Thrones season one as I was reading the book. The acting is amazing, and it does a really great job of bringing the book to life! Other than that I’ve only really been watching Motorsport and YouTube – I’ve watched so much WiiRikeToPray it’s ridiculous! They’re a group of four friends that play videogames together – I’ve watched lots of their LPs this month, and their MarioKart8 playthrough is great.

What have you loved this month?

Hope you all have a beautiful day,

Becca x

Autumn 2015 Wishlist

Autumn Favourites

Hey guys – sorry for not posting yesterday, it was my sister’s birthday and everything got a bit hectic! To make up for it, today’s post is my first wishlist post – I will probably never get anything on this list (as uni starts again in a couple of weeks), but it’s nice to have something to aim for!

Urban Decay

Being a wishlist post, it’s no surprise that my favourite brand has ended up here! I really want the Naked Smoky palette – it looks amazing, and I do not have anything remotely similar to it, so I feel like it would be a justified purchase (maybe a Christmas present? or is it too early to think about that still?). I also love the new Matte Revolution lipsticks; I don’t have any so one of these may be something to invest in? I particularly like the shades Bad Blood and After Dark – I really need a dark, more autumnal colour!

Bare Minerals

I really want to try the new Blemish Ready Foundation – I’ve never used a powder foundation before, but this one looks really good! I have a sample of it to try; there will be a review coming soon (when I’ve had the chance to try it!).

I love the Kate Moss Matte Finish lipsticks from Rimmel London – a cheaper alternative to the Urban Decay ones – and I’ve heard great things about them. Out of everything on this list, I am probably most likely to end up buying one of these as they just seem to be too good to miss!

My Bourjois blusher is amazing, and I would love to try their cream blushes too – I think that I would get the shade Rose Tender if I ended up buying one! I’ve never used a cream blush, but I love my cream highlighter, so I’d like to give it a try!

For my hair, I want to try Fudge Urban’s Miracle Ends lotion – I really love this brand (I’ve written a review of some of their products here) and I want to see if their hair care products are as good as their styling ones!

Finally, I really want an autumnal nail polish, as I don’t have any; I’ve chosen Essie’s Nail Lacquer in Bahama Mama as the shade that I would most like!

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this slightly different post today! What is on your Autumn Wishlist?

Hope you all have a beautiful day,

Becca x

Lovely Blogger Award

Today I was nominated for my third award this week (seriously – what is going on?) – this time it is the Lovely Blogger Award, and I was nominated by beautifullyblushed24 (you should all check out her blog as I love it!). I really can’t believe that out of my six posts this week, three have been awards (considering that normally I only post twice a week, this week has been crazy!) – I’m so grateful to everyone who has nominated me for them; I’ve only been blogging for about six weeks, and it really means a lot!

The rules for this award are as follows:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  2. List the rules and display the award
  3. Add 7 facts about yourself
  4. Nominate 10 – 15 bloggers for the award, and comment on one of their posts to let them know

So, my facts are:

  • I am currently studying for a degree in Archaeology and Ancient Civilisations at Durham University
  • I love making clothes for my sister and I (at the moment I am working on a top for her – will do a post on it when it’s finished!)
  • Although I love action and fantasy films, my favourite film of all time is August Rush
  • Every Sunday I watch some sort of motorsport on TV with my dad – mainly Formula 1 and MotoGP, but also BSB and anything else that is on! (This weekend there are so many races on, but I’ll have to watch them on Monday as it is my sister’s 18th birthday)
  • Italy is one of my favourite places in the world – I’ve been four times in the last three years (twice this year – one of those visits lasted three weeks as well!)
  • I have always wanted to travel to Canada and Australia – they’re probably my dream holiday destinations
  • I would love to be in a rock band; singing and performing is one of my favourite things to do, and I think it would be so fun to just play great music with some friends!

My nominations are:

Thanks again to those who have nominated me for awards this week, and I hope you all have a beautiful day,

Becca x

The Liebster Award 2.0

So, lucky me got nominated for the Liebster Award for the second time in a week! I can hardly believe it – I never thought that I’d even get nominated once, so to have it happen twice in one week is a little bit much! This time the thanks go to the lovely Lorraine from tartesandroses for nominating me – I love her blog, and you should all go and check it out 🙂

A recap on how the award works:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you
  2. Provide a link back to their page
  3. Copy & Paste the award to your blog
  4. Answer the questions set by the person who nominated you
  5. Nominate 5 blogs with less than 500 followers
  6. Leave a comment on their blog to inform them of their nomination

Here are my answers:

  1. What is your go-to Starbucks order? Is it bad to say that I don’t go to Starbucks? I love Costa though, and I always order a hot chocolate – but in the winter they do special ones, and last year’s Belgian Hot Chocolate was to die for!
  2. What is your favourite makeup palette? Urban Decay’s Naked palette – no surprises there; it’s been my favourite for the two and a half years I’ve owned it!
  3. If you could only shop at one store for the rest of your life, where would it be? This is a hard one, because I have very diverse tastes in what I buy – a department store like Debenhams would probably be a good shout, but I only buy clothes from TopShop and New Look, so that’s a bit of an issue. I think in the end I would have to go with House of Fraser, as I would be able to buy clothes, makeup and shoes that I like from it!
  4. What do you hope to accomplish from your blog? I want to connect with people who have the same interests as me, and make lots of new friends! Outside of this blog most of my friends are guys, or just not that in to beauty; we get along great, and there’s no-one I would rather have on my pub quiz team, but sometimes I wish I had someone to talk to about new products etc.
  5. What is your most hated food? I am a very fussy eater, but I don’t explicitly HATE any food; I would say that anything with an insane amount of cheese always fills me with dread – it’s good on pizza and lasagne, but that’s it.
  6. Write a little bit about your best friend. My best friend is my little sister Katie – she’s almost the complete opposite of me, but we’re becoming more alike as we get older. I love rock music and motorbikes – she loves Taylor Swift and getting her nails done; but I’ve caught her listening to my CDs more often than not lately, and she’s been teaching me more about makeup. There’s no-one I would rather spend time with, and I miss her more than anything when I’m away at uni.

Katie and I at the beach on her 17th birthday

  7. What is your favourite book? This is such a difficult question for someone who reads almost constantly! I have over 500 books in my room, and I love them all. I would have to go with Oblivion by Anthony Horowitz (it’s where my username of beccasoblivion came from). It’s the last book in a brilliantly scary fantasy series that was released through my teenage years. This one is quite confusing and absolutely horrific in parts – not sure I’d recommend it to anyone, but I love it all the same!
  8. What is your favourite alcoholic beverage? I don’t have one – one of the reasons I don’t drink is because I hate the taste of alcohol.
  9. What is your favourite season? It always used to be spring, but now I’ve grown to love autumn as well – it’s not quite as gloomy as spring sometimes feels, and there aren’t as many deadlines for me (everything is due next spring!).
  10. Who is your celebrity role model? I’ve never really thought about this, but I love Scarlett Johansson – everything about her is awesome!

This time my nominations are geerosebeauty, Jumper Weather, Be Happy Be Beautiful, Hayley the Comet, and iamamyharrison. The questions are as follows:

  1. Where in the world would you love to live one day?
  2. Who is your style icon?
  3. What is your favourite TV show?
  4. What is something that you have always wanted to try/do, but have not yet done?
  5. What song just makes you want to get up and dance?
  6. If you could meet a fictional character, who would it be and why?
  7. What item of clothing in your wardrobe do you think you will most likely still be wearing in five years’ time?
  8. What is your favourite flavour of ice cream/frozen yoghurt?
  9. What, in your opinion, is the best thing about Autumn?
  10. What is your favourite film to watch with your friends?

Hope you all have fun answering these questions, and that you all have a beautiful day,

Becca x

The Makeup Tag – Blogging 101

Yesterday’s Blogging 101 assignment was to participate in a blogging event, however there are no events for beauty bloggers, so I decided to ‘The Makeup Tag’ as seen on bostonbeautybuzz instead – I feel that this is a way of connecting with the wider community of beauty bloggers. I’d love to see anyone else’s posts of this tag as well!

What foundation do you use? My everyday foundation is now L’Oreal’s True Match in Rose Ivory, however I also use Urban Decay’s Naked Skin in 0.5. I love both, but I find the Urban Decay one slightly easier to blend.

How about concealer? Collection’s Lasting Perfection concealer – I use it every day, and I love the feel of it and that it is so blendable.

What do you think of fake eyelashes? I’ve never used them, and I don’t think that I ever will – I prefer to not have too much on my eyes as I wear glasses most of the time.

What brand of mascara do you use? I don’t really use mascara, but I do have a small tube of Benefit’s They’re Real mascara. It is definitely the best mascara I’ve ever tried, I’m just not a fan of the product in general.

Sephora or MAC? I’ve never been to a Sephora, but I understand that it’s a department store with lots of makeup brands, so I would liken it to my local Debenhams, and I shop there all the time (even though I love MAC, we don’t have one near where I live, so I only own one MAC lipstick).

What makeup tools do you use in your makeup application? My RealTechniques and EcoTools brushes – I’ve only had them a few months and I really love how they’ve changed the way I apply makeup.

Do you use a makeup base/primer for your face or eyes? I use Benefit’s POREfessional primer on my face most days, and then I use Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion on my eyes on special occasions.

What is your favourite eyeshadow (colour or shade)? I love my Urban Decay Naked palette, and my favourite shades are Sidecar and Half Baked.

What do you think of pigment eyeshadows? I’ve never used a pigment eyeshadow, but I’d love to try, some of them that I’ve seen look amazing – the colours look really intense.

What is your favourite lipstick? My most recent lip purchase of MAC’s See Sheer – it’s such a lovely pinkish red that can be worn during the day or at night.

How about lipgloss? I don’t own any lipglosses, and I haven’t used them for a long time – I’m not a huge fan of them as I always feel that they make my lips too sticky.

Do you like drugstore makeup? I love it! Yes I love my Urban Decay stuff, but most of the stuff I buy myself is from Boots – I love Bourjois and Maybelline, as well as many others, and I will always love MUA.

Name a makeup crime that you hate. I’m not sure about this one – probably when people wear so much foundation that they look orange – it was a popular look when I was at school to have bleached blonde hair and an orange face (not a good look on anyone)!

Do you like colourful shades of makeup or more neutral ones? I do love a bit of colour (see my love of blue eyeshadow), but I prefer to use more neutral colours most of the time.

What is your favourite blush to use? I only own one blush, but I love it – Bourjois’ Little Round Pot in Rose Ambré. It smells so nice, and just gives a little hint of pink.

If you could leave the house using just ONE makeup item, what would you use? Probably eyeliner – I often go out with just this on.

Could you ever leave the house with no makeup on? Yeah, I do it all the time – I only started wearing makeup during the day in the past couple of months.

In your opinion, what is the best makeup line? As you can probably tell, I love Urban Decay, as well as Benefit, but the brand that I really want loads from is BareMinerals (however I have only used their products once when my friend did my makeup).

What do you think of makeup? I don’t really know how to answer this question – it seems strange to ask this to beauty bloggers. Of course I love it and the ability it gives me to express myself, and I love seeing what other people do with it too!

Hope you enjoyed reading this, and that you all have a beautiful day,

My Daily Ritual – Blogging 101

As part of the Blogging 101 course, we were challenged to use one of the daily prompts to write a post that fits in with our blog – I chose the Daily Ritual prompt, and obviously mine (like many of you guys) is doing my makeup. Hence, this post is my first MOTD post!

I definitely feel like my daily makeup is beginning to look more Autumnal, and I borrowed a great lip colour off my sister that really pulls the look together.

The products I used were:

I always enjoy doing my makeup, and I love that I got to try out my new purchases from my Boots Mini-Haul! I love the foundation, it feels so nice on my skin – hardly any different from my Urban Decay one – and it’s really easy to blend in. The highlighter is great as well; really nice and shimmery – definitely glad that i bought it!

Hope you guys all have a beautiful day,

Becca x

The Liebster Award

Thank you to jenniwren7 for nominating me for the Liebster Award. I really can’t believe it! The rules of the award are as follows:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you
  2. Provide a link back to their page
  3. Copy & Paste the award to your blog
  4. Answer the questions set by the person who nominated you
  5. Nominate 5 blogs with less than 500 followers
  6. Leave a comment on their blog to inform them of their nomination

So here are my answers:

  1. Who is your style icon? I’m not too sure I’ve ever really thought about this, but I love Taylor Momsen & Lzzy Hale’s style, so I’d probably go with them.
  2. What was your first post about? It was a terrible introduction post that I regret completely.
  3. Favourite movie that everyone else hates? I don’t really know about  this, as most of the films that I love are ones that my friends have never heard of. I remember loving a terrible film called ‘My Uncle The Alien’ when I was younger, and my friends refused to watch it, so probably that.
  4. Worst beauty mistake? Probably my over-use of blue eyeliner when I was fourteen – I wore it at every opportunity.
  5. Which celebrity would you want to marry? This is a tough one, but probably the MotoGP rider Marc Marquez (I love motorsport!).c0c4b7b51926c0904ea2cfb88e95ca2b
  6. Favourite hairstyle? Really not sure about this one – I always think that it depends on the person, as I love my long hair, but short hair can look amazing on some people.
  7. Proudest moment? Probably moving away to uni two years ago, and realising that I can live on my own.
  8. How long have you been blogging? About a month.
  9. Favourite location? Anywhere sunny, with lots of fresh air. I love the Italian countryside – I spent almost a month there this summer.
  10. How do you relax? Listening to rock music, watching gaming videos on YouTube, or reading a book.

My nominations are beautifullyblushed24, visionofbeauty14, thegingerlife1, meghan0x and beautygardenxx. The questions are as follows:

  1. If you could spend a day as someone else, who would it be and why?
  2. Spring or Autumn?
  3. Where would you go on a dream vacation?
  4. What was your favorite book as a child?
  5. What is your favourite makeup brand?
  6. What song can’t you stop singing at the moment?
  7. What is your dream job?
  8. Who is your inspiration and why?
  9. What is your number one feel-good film?
  10. If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

Hope you all have a beautiful day,

Becca x

Boots Mini-Haul

Yesterday I went shopping with my sister to pick up some stuff for her birthday party next weekend, and it was fine (i.e. I hadn’t bought anything) until she said that she needed to buy a few things in Boots. When we left I had spent around £20 – some of the stuff I did need, some of it I could probably do without!

I bought the Garnier Ultimate Blends shampoo & conditioner (£3.89 each) as I did not have any for going back to uni in a couple of weeks, and would have bought some sooner or later anyway. I love these products, and have been using them for about six months now.

The Fudge Urban Iced Raspberry & Vanilla Hairspray (£5.29) is a new buy, but I love Fudge Urban’s other products, love the smell of this one, needed a new hairspray, and had a voucher for £1 off, so decided to go for it. I’ve done a review of my Fudge Urban products – find it here.

One of the makeup products I bought is L’Oreal’s True Match Foundation (£9.99) in Rose Ivory. I’ve needed an affordable drugstore foundation for a while now – I can’t justify using my Urban Decay foundation every day throughout Autumn and Winter, and I’ve heard good things about this one (like in this drugstore foundation review by lucieleannexo), so I’m excited to try it.

I also bought The Collection Speedy Highlighter (£3.99) as I did not have a highlighter, and this one came highly recommended by bronzerandbooks in her review here. I am yet to try it out properly, but from what I’ve seen so far, I love it – and it’s such good value!

I hope you enjoyed this post, I’ve really liked doing a haul post for the first time, so let me know what you think!

Hope you all have a beautiful day,

Becca x

Ciaté Nail Polish | Review

Several months ago, I never wore nail polish – I didn’t really see the appeal, and I was terrible at putting it on. The only polish I owned was clear, and I used it to stop holes in my ballet tights from laddering. Then I received three Ciaté polishes as a gift from a friend, and now I do wear it quite a bit.

The colours I received were London Baby, Chinchilla, and Mistress. Each polish costs £9.00, or you can buy these three together for £20.00 in the Nail Taxi Collection.

London Baby, Chinchilla & Mistress

London Baby, Chinchilla & Mistress

London Baby is the one that I have used least – it is pretty much just silver sparkles. It can look nice over another colour, or as something for a bit of extra sparkle for a special event, but I often leave my nail polish on for a few days, and I get a bit irritated with the sparkles all the time. It is also quite difficult to get off as the sparkles just get all over your hands.

London Baby

London Baby

Chinchilla is my favourite of the three – blue is my favourite colour, and it’s such a lovely pale shade. It is perfect for wearing during the week, with pretty much any outfit. It looks classy and sophisticated and I love it! (Although I have no idea why it is called Chinchilla.)

Mistress is also a great colour – it just jumps right out at you. Perfect for giving you a little bit of kick-ass confidence if you need it! The only negative about this one is that the mixture is a little bit watery, hence you need to do quite a few coats to get a good amount of colour.

All in all, I really love these polishes – and I love that they have ignited my love for painting my nails (even if I don’t do it that often). I am seriously considering buying a few more colours – even though they are slightly more expensive than some brands, I love the quality that they have, and the packaging is so cute!

What brands of nail polish would you recommend I try?

Hope you all have a beautiful day,

Becca x

Blue Eyeshadow Look – Featuring Bourjois Colour Edition 24H Eyeshadow

So I thought I’d try something new with today’s post – this is the first makeup look I have EVER done (so bear with me if it’s terrible!).

Blue eyeshadow is something that I have always had in my makeup bag since I was about 5 years old. (Wait what?) Yeah, I started ballet classes when I was 3 and have danced ever since (although it has taken a backseat since I’ve been at uni), and for all performances and competitions we had to have the brightest, shimmeriest blue eyeshadow that we could find. Hence I have a strong affinity for using blue on my eyes to this day!

I recently bought a new blue eyeshadow (as my old ones had been thrown out after the last show), and I got Bourjois Colour Edition 24H in Bleu Ténébreux for £6.99.

IMG_20150909_130727445_HDR IMG_20150909_130737207

The eyeshadow is very creamy and smooth (not a powder) – very similar to Maybelline Colour Tattoo. I don’t have any of the Maybelline eyeshadows, but I decided on this as I love Bourjois other products and thought I’d give it a go.

IMG_20150909_130905750 IMG_20150909_131020109

The swatch came out very dark, and you can’t really see the shimmer that it has – it’s a very different colour to what I’m used to, but I love it. It is a bit of a pain to get off as it sticks to the skin, although eye-makeup remover does clean it off quickly.

The only negative thing that I would say about the eyeshadow is that it was difficult to use my brushes with it; the creamy texture made it hard to get the right amount on the brush, but I will still use it as I love the colour and the effect it gives.

Here is the look that I created:

cropped-blue-open cropped-blue-closed

As you can see, it looks much more blue once it’s on the eyes, and I love the effect it gives.

The products used to create this look were:

I’ve really enjoyed doing something slightly different for this post. Let me know what you think, and whether you’ve used any of these products!

Hope you guys have a beautiful day,

Becca x
